<![CDATA[Canada wins 2011. Amsterdam Sevens

Canada have been crowned champions at the Amsterdam women’s sevens going through the tournament unbeaten.

The win continues a remarkable year for the Canadians, who have won all of the major sevens titles this year, taking the Las Vegas, Hong Kong and now Amsterdam events.

The team defeated the host Netherlands 26-19 in the semifinal before beating Samurai International 31-12 to take the title.

In the final against the Samurai team, Ashley Patzer scored a pair of tries and added two conversions. The Nomads’ own Kelly Russell also scored a try, as did Mandy Marchak and Brittany Waters.

Canada were the favourites going into the tournament with the Netherlands also expected to do well as the defending champions.

This year saw a record number of entries to the competition with 24 teams entered.
