Lloyd Dobson’s Memorial Service

The Toronto Nomads and the wider rugby community in general are together mourning the loss of one of our modern day club greats. Lloyd Dobson tragically passed away at the age of 39 last weekend.

A member of the Nomads since his arrival in Toronto in 1997 from BC, Lloyd was well known throughout the sport as a fierce competitor, a committed teammate, a rugby brother and a true cornerstone of the rugby community. His love for the game saw him continuing to represent the Nomads at 1st XV level up to last season and he was looking forward to locking horns with long time opponents and young up and comers in the front row again this season.

In addition to his playing prowess, Lloyd was coach, mentor and “big brother” to so many younger Nomads over the years. His influence with the Nomads U18’s as well as with Oakwood Collegiate was instrumental in developing passionate, committed young rugby players who have gone on to achieve so much on the field and in life.

Lloyd was the embodiment of the rugby spirit and values that we all hold so dear. A true competitor on the pitch and a man for all off it. He was proud of his club and his sport and we are proud to have had Lloyd as a club man, teammate and rugby brother for the time we did.

The Toronto Nomads and the wider rugby community extends our condolences to Lloyd’s mother and family.

The service for Lloyd will be held at the Salvation Army church at 789 Dovercourt Rd., one block north of Bloor Street at 2:00 pm on Friday.  Following the funeral there will be a gathering at The Hogtown Pub and Oysters which is at 633 College St (College & Grace) starting around 3pm onwards. For those who cannot make the event and have a memory that you would like told please message us (info@torontonomads.com) and we will ensure it is shared as we raise a glass to the big man.
