This week, one of Canada’s greatest-ever test rugby players officially retired from both the national 15s and sevens programs. “Right now, it feels right for me. I’m thankful I’m doing it on my own terms and I’m just so grateful for all the people who helped me throughout my career,” said Russell in her official statement through Rugby Canada.

“The Toronto Nomads and the Ontario club rugby system and the entire Ontario rugby union were big parts of my career and then, obviously, Rugby Canada. My family, my teammates and my friends have all been so supportive over the years and I can’t thank them enough. As for my coaches, I feel that I’ve learned something from every single one of them along the way. They instilled values in me within rugby but also within life.

“Yes, I love the game and love playing the game, but I’m happy where I’m at right now and what I’ve done.”

Kevin Vertkas Making International Rugby Waves

Saturday, January 14th, 2017

Our Club is very proud of Kevin Vertkas for his impactful debut on the international stage this winter! Last weekend, the U18s player scored a try while competing in the World Rugby Sevens tournament in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Kevin’s massive effort on the pitch was praise by coach Lee Douglas. Coach Douglas said that a “special mention should go to Kevin Vertkas as it was his first senior tour, he played in every game and made some real impactful contributions, including his first senior try.” Way to go Kev!

Kev and his Maple Leaf teammates were cheered on by Nomads U14s player Santi Palacios, coach Marcelo Palacios and family.

The team is now in Vina Del Mar, Chile for this weekend’s tournament. Once again Kevin will have Nomads on hand for support including Mom Tammy, Dad George and Juniors’ Technical Director Campbell MacNeill and his wife Franny.

This goes to show, Nomads spirit is alive and strong across the globe!

Nomad James Hammond Needs Our Support to Play at the National Level

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

As you may have heard, Nomad James Hammond has been selected to represent Canada under 19 team. Way to go James!

The Canada u19 team heads to San Diego for a tournament in late December and travels to Ireland in the New Year.

Unfortunately, unlike many rugby playing countries, Canada national under age representatives are required to pay their own way. In James’s case, he and his family are required to find a total of $4,800!!!

As James’ Nomads clubmates, we can lessen the financial burden by contributing to a gofundme campaign set up to offset the costs of James’ participation. Please consider donating what you can (no amount is too small) to James GoFundMe campaign at:

Please pass this information on to anyone else who may be interested.

Let us all demonstrate the power of the Nomads Spirit and help James on his way.

Go Nomads!
