Nomads at the Top: Women & Men Competing in Top Divisions

Friday, April 19th, 2019

After a successful first season back in the OWL, the Nomads ladies finished last year third in the west. They are returning to play in Ontario’s premier women’s competition with a new coach (imported from New Zealand, of course) and an insatiable hunger for Ws. They plan to run two teams, a high performance squad, as well as a development team.

The men faced a challenging 2018 season, but finished with a series of wins that proved they had what it takes to play with some of the province’s top teams. This year the Nomads men will compete in the Marshall League, the new premier division in Ontario. This will be the first time in many years that the Nomad men have competed at such a high level. In fact, the last time the Nomads won the Carlin Cup (the highest award in Ontario Men’s Rugby at that time) it was 1976! Back then, a try was worth four points, and stores were closed on Sundays.

The Monumentally Sad Passing of Lloyd Dobson

Sunday, March 17th, 2019

Brothers and sisters,
It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that Lloyd Dobson passed away last night of an apparent heart attack.
Lloyd was a friend and a teammate and a brother and a true Nomad for most of his life. I know that he was a teacher to many of you younger players and was responsible for many of you finding your way to the game of rugby and to our club.
He was a mainstay of the Nomads and I’m crushed that we won’t be able to share the field again.
My family is gutted as my children genuinely loved him and my daughter Lucy, just yesterday had a great time teasing and goofing around with Lloyd at the game. She is shattered today.
If there is any comfort in this, at the very least, Lloyd spent his last day surrounded by his Nomad brothers and sisters, watching his club play and having a laugh with everyone afterwards.
We don’t have any details regarding a memorial just yet but will pass them along as soon as we do.
Rest easy my brother, you will be missed.
