Soccer World Cup Pool

As some of you may have heard, there is also a World Cup for soccer now.

Traditionally held the year before the Rugby World Cup, the FIFA World Cup is being held in South Africa from June 11th to July 11th, 2010.

The Nomads are holding a World Cup pool, where your picks are made online.

The cost will be $10 per player with 1st and 2nd place winning cash prizes. How much that is will depend on how many entries we get. Non-rugby players, retired players, friends and family are strongly encouraged to join as well.

To join, go to http://www.pooltracker.com/join.asp?poolid=44677 and then submit your entry fee to Steve Darley at training, games, the pub or some other arrangement. You can reach Steve at sjdarley@gmail.com.

Get your picks done before the World Cup starts on June 11th, and feel free to talk smack on the online forum. Results will be posted on the Nomads website as the tournament progresses.

Carpool information for Saracens

Due to Fletcher's Fields not yet being opened for the season, the Nomads will be hosting the Saracans at the Crusaders Rugby Park in Oakville.

Although there has been a great turnout at training (47 senior men on Thursday) unfortunately there will not be a thrid team game this weekend, Saturday, May 15th.

The Saracens were unable to put together a third side, which is lamentable but understandable. We have been in that situation before and know how hard it can be. Fortunately they did let us know well ahead of time. Nothing is worse than finding out on game day.

So the games for the senior men will be 2nds at 1:30pm and 3rds at 3:00pm.

There is one carpool time at Kipling station, 11:30am Saturday. There is a kiss & ride area accessible underground from the station. Take yourself and/or your car there so we can leave at 11:30am.

Kipling station

The games are both at Crusaders rugby park, which is on Ninth Line in Oakville, just north of where the QEW meets the 403. Take the Ford Drive exit to get to Ninth line.

If there are any problems, call Garth 647.218.0511, Pete 416.876.3572 or Adrew Prior 416.458.7705.

Girls Rugby Recycling Initiative Toronto (G.R.R.I.T)

Donate your 'gently used' rugby kit today to high school girls in the Toronto community!

It's hard enough to learn a new sport such as rugby for the very first time, but it's exceptionally hard when you may not have the means to supply your own rugby kit.

For those of you who have rugby gear stashed away or are thinking of upgrading, now is your chance to give back to the community.

We are looking for donations of the following:

CLEATS, JERSEYS, SHORTS, SOCKS, HEAD PROTECTORS

In terms of sizes, we are looking for the following:

Cleats -- Junior Boys 4-6, Men's sized 6-9, women's sizes 6-11 (please ensure they are in respectable condition)
Shorts -- Sizes 28-40 (small to XL)
Socks -- whatever you have
Jerseys -- small to XXL

Please bring your donations to any Nomads indoor or outdoor practice and they will be collected at the beginning of training.
