JOHN REICH [mailto:johnreich@hotmail.com]
It is with profound regret that the Aurora Barbarians Rugby Football Club acknowledges the passing of one of its most dedicated sons – Simon Allen. Simon fought a 10 year battle with cancer and notwithstanding several victorious rounds he eventually succumbed to the relentless monster. Simon began his Canadian rugby career with the Irish Canadians RFC. A utility back with moments of brilliance and a keen love for the sport, Simon flourished later in his rugby life as the conscience of the game. An outstanding contributor to the programs at the Aurora Rugby Club and later the Aurora Barbarians, Simon was also an avid supporter of the McMaster University rugby team and held office as the Director of Heath and Safety for the Ontario Rugby Union helping to pen a model for strategic development within our union. Simon was outspoken in his belief that good health is our most precious possession and that awareness is the first principle to remaining physically and mentally sound. Simon was committed to raising the standard of care and consideration for every rugby player from house league to National Team. Within the Barbarian family Simon was known for his comprehensive game reporting where his love of club was obvious. His criticisms were useful, his insight far reaching, his enthusiasm never waning. Simon’s rugby world was a shining star. For those that shared his rugby stage, it sparkles a little less brightly today. Simon is survived by his dear wife Lynn, daughter Tracey and son Shaun. The consummate humanitarian, Simon’s body is bequeathed to science and the family will forgo a funeral in favor of a memorial service and celebration of his life and ours at a time to be determined. Farewell my friend! John
Reich President, ---------------------------------------------------------- Games Locations Changed for May 9th The venue for the senior men's games this weekend (May 9th) have been moved to Oakwood Collegiate due to field closures at Fletcher's Fields. -------------- With rain forecast for the next three days Fletcher's fields cannot take the extra water and would need a lot of remedial work before we could use them again this year if we opened this weekend. Fletchers Fields will NOT be available for the league games scheduled here this weekend, Sat. May 9th. I will work with all the clubs involved in the 8 games and look for reschedule dates asap. Thanks,
Colin Baker The senior men will play Barrie RFC at Oakwood with kick-off times of 1:30pm & 3:00pm.
