UNDER-21s
(born on or after January 1st, 1986, at least 17 years old)

The Toronto Rugby Union U21 league has grown greatly since 2000; that was when the Nomads and other clubs pushed for an additional division to bridge the gap between junior and senior rugby.

What club administrators found was that when players turned 19, many balked at joining the senior team right away. Others chose to not play rugby if they could not play alongside their old schoolmates, who were still in the U18 division.

The U21 league solved that as games were on Wednesday evenings throughout July and August when the U18s played. Friends stayed together for a few more years and found that playing senior rugby was not as intimidating as they may ahve thought.

The Nomads' U21 team had a year's hiatus in 2005 & 2006 as there were too few U18 players moving up. Instead, the U21 eligible players made up the core of the senior men's 3rd team, which had a two successful seasons.

For 2007, there will should be a core of U18s who have moved up and we will look to run a team. But be aware that a minimum 22 players must be registered to play on the U21 team by early June, or else the Toronto Rugby Union will not accept our entry.

If you are eligible and interested in playing U21 rugby for the Nomads, please come out to training or contact Adam Mernick at mernick@hotmail.com or 416-271-7395 :
